Problem
The client, a Global 100 Investment Bank with over 22,000 employees on six continents, wanted to create a better-educated organization. Knowledge, it learned, needed to be shared across the entire organization worldwide in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations. The firm identified several specific problem areas: inefficient capture of and access to information, uncertainty about reliability and completeness of information, a lack of well-defined responsibility for business processes and information, and difficulty in fielding and managing distributed teams.
Solution
Pathfinder collaborated with DiamondCluster International to implement a corporate desktop and knowledge management solution, with Pathfinder providing technical architecture, development and design, and DiamondCluster International providing business process reengineering, business analysis and change management.
Technology utilized included Vignette/Epicentric Portal Server, Open Text Livelink, internally developed iPlanet/IIS plugin for single sign-on, Sybase/Oracle databases, and the integration of numerous applications and data feeds.
The initial pilot project was for Market Data Services, with 200 employees distributed worldwide. The pilot was a success, and the results of the pilot were incorporated into the larger rollout to 22,000 professionals worldwide.
