Wow. You are so far off when it comes to hiring developers.

It kind of brings me to tears that personal traits seem to get overlooked in IT above scratching the interviewers ego by throwing new recruits a technical task - wouldn't want them to be smarter than you now would we?

I've turned down jobs that have applied the exact same criteria you're attempting to apply - simply because the company is clearly looking at technical skills AND NOT if looking at if you're a complete psycho.

Technically brilliant developers tend to be arrogant, something that generally won't show in an interview OR technical test.

And have a rails blog? Bahaha. Wanker. Shouldn't you be hiring people who are slightly balanced with thier outlook?

don't "look for open source contribution", "a university degree [*is*] important", you're not looking for a skilled person, you're looking for security :) Your article sounds like you're searching for a senior java developer, not a rails one.
