Later this week, I'll be attending RailsConf 2008. There will be blog posts here, I'm sure, with any interesting info. If you like your updates in 140-character bursts, you can follow my Twitter feed at http://www.twitter.com/noelrap.
Thanks to the marketing folk at Wiley, I will be armed with some number of copies of Professional Ruby on Rails to do with what I will. I'll also have about 500 marketing flyers -- I have no idea what to do with those.
The books, though, I plan on giving away. Here's the deal:
I'm going to be carrying some small number of books each day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The first people to come up to me and ask for one get a free book -- please do give me your name so I can mention you on this blog and so forth. I'll be the guy who looks like the picture to the left. Only in color. And wearing glasses.
If you catch me and I'm out of books for the day, give me your email address.
If you aren't going to RailsConf, leave a comment to this blog post, make sure you have enough information for me to contact you.
When I get back to the conference, I'll pick randomly from the email addresses I'm given or from comments here to give away the remaining books.
I reserve the right to award a book to one particularly clever, witty, or appropriate comment.
This is all subject to availability -- I don't know how many books I'm going to have. I'm not going to use the emails for any purpose other than notifying emails.
I'm looking forward to meeting and hearing from you and hoping that I actually give away some books.

It’s nice to see freebies given away all the time
I’m actually pretty new in Rails, and having actually using it to develop one of my current project as university assessment made me realised its powerful. I’ve got some pretty decent books for beginners, but would love to have one that takes me to a higher level of understanding of RoR.
Cheers!

Hey hey hey, I’d like a free book!
Comment by Matt Polito, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 12:30 pm
Thanks for the chance for the free book. I’ll enjoy checking your book out, free or not, but even more so if its free.
Comment by Jason Jones, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 12:30 pm
May I have the leftover book?
I am looking forward to learn Ruby on Rails and currently there doesn’t seem to be any decent book covering Rails 2.x. I am still new to Rails so I was thinking to skip the previous version of Rails.
Thank you very much.
Edwin
Comment by Edwin, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 12:34 pm
I would take one. Thanks!
Comment by Thomazr, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 12:36 pm
Hoping for a free book!
“I’ll be the guy who looks like the picture to the left. Only in color. And wearing glasses.” Why no glasses in the book cover shot?
Anyhow, congratulations on the book - here’s hoping the sales go through the roof.
Comment by Doug R., Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 12:40 pm

Hey Noel,
I won’t be able to make it to this year’s RailsConf and I’d really appreciate being entered into the drawing. So, what do you think about a book for the first commenter?
Ethan
Comment by Ethan Bambock, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 1:09 pm
I take that back, the second commenter…the first guy, he’s not interested.
Comment by Ethan Bambock, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 @ 1:10 pm
I take that back, how about the second commenter?

I have surrendered my life to the rails framework. Only problem is I dont understand it yet. Im returning to IT after a 3 year haitus. I used to know everything now I know nothing, but I am ready to make a significant investment in this technology.
This book would be a great help.

I came across RoR in the last month only and it has stunned me to see the amount of information flowing across the community. The free books and tutorials are alwayz a blessing for a newbie like me. So I do hope I get a copy.
Yours witlessly, Andy

Comment by Jim Neath, Wednesday, May 28, 2008 @ 3:30 am
Well, if I got a Pro book on Rails I could give my ‘non’ Pro Rails books to some Java programmer friends of mine who are in desperate need of an imagination injection. But then, they may regard them as works of fiction
