GWT Conference, Day 2
Fresh and rested for Day 2 of the GWT conference.
Last night's product showcase was definitely a little light. Overall that's pretty much in line with the Technology Conference Lifecycle (tm). At first just developers show up. A few smaller vendors make the journey. Props to Instantiations for flying the flag with GWT Designer, their Eclipse plugin for WYSIWYG GWT design. The second and third years will be known as the "Golden Years," with developers showing off new and exciting capabilities of the technology. Year four will mark the beginning of the decline of the technology, with vendors and marketing types clogging the convention. At that point the technology will have "arrived."
This morning's "conversation" was with Jeet Kaul, the VP at Sun in charge of developer tools. It turned into a pitch for the new NetBeans 6.0 and jMaki, Sun's Ajax "best of breed" suite.
Just one quote:
"Some folks were saying we are going to use Java on the server and mentioned something about enterprise beans. And we desktop folks laughed our asses off. It'll never work." (Of course they were right as far as EJB's go. ;-))
