Framework Watch - CPAINT

CPAINT (Cross-Platform Asynchronous INterface Toolkit) is a framework for remoting from Javascript. Basically it allows you to declare functions in PHP or ASP (Perl and .NET ports are underway), register them with the framework, then call them via XHR from Javascript. The framework includes Javascript and PHP/ASP utility logic to aid in producing and consuming XML messages. CPAINT also includes a proxy for calling remote web services.

CPAINT's main benefit seems to be simplicity -- it doesn't do DHTML or provide widget sets -- it just allows you call server side logic and generate and consume XML messages.
