Application Watch – CShout

What is a shout box? An Ajax chat widget you can put on your site and have folks gab away. Voila! Instant community. I'm sure we'll make us of this new technology as responsibly as we've made use of everything else. ;-) CShout is just such a shout box, implemented in php. You don't need a database as it uses a simple text file as its persistent store.

I'll not make any judgements about the implementation. I do find this idea of easily making a page or a site into a community in this way a very interesting and compelling notion. We've been doing this for a long time, through comments, etc. But there's a fundamentally different quality to chat versus comments.
